BG Group was one of the first companies to enter Tanzania when in 2010 it acquired interests in off-shore exploration acreage covering more than 25 000 square kilometres. The next year, in mid 2011, BG Group became operator of the project, introducing the state-of-the-art drill ship Deepsea Metro-1, opening a new office in Dar Es Salaam and upgrading an offshore supply port at Mtwara. BG Group recently made its sixth consecutive natural gas discovery off-shore Tanzania with the Papa-1 well, extending an already remarkable run of exploration success in one of the world's fast emerging oil and gas provinces.

It has already taken millions of nuts, bolts, and man hours to construct the first shipment of pre-fabricated LNG modules that will be used to construct BG Group's QCLNG terminal on Curtis Island. A total of 80 modules varying in size up to about 2 500 tonnes, 75 metres long and 10 storeys high will arrive in Gladstone during 2013 as the project progresses towards first LNG in 2014.
