Chancellor Angela Merkel has decided to extend the lifespan of Germany's nuclear reactors by ten to fifteen years - in a clear expression of support for keeping nuclear power in the country's energy mix. The Social Democrats and Green party staunchly oppose the decision - after all, while they were in government, they voted for a nuclear phase-out. But can Germany afford to do without nuclear energy?
