気仙沼市の市街地を襲う津波の様子を捉えた映像。
地震後、避難する人々が高台に集まってきた。
警報を知らせるサイレンや非常アナウンスが、街中に、けたたましく、何度も響き渡る。
カメラは断続的に、狭い湾内の対岸に係留された2隻のボートを捉えている。
はじめ2隻のボートは、尋常ならぬ水位の低下を知らせる。
度々の余震のあと、2隻のボートに凝視されたカメラが、みるみるうちに上昇する海面を
水面は、あっという間に岸壁の高さを超えてあふれ出し、ボートを押し流す。
気がつけば、高台下の市街地にも水が押し寄せてくる。
浸水していく車、流され出す車...。街のいたるところで激流が発生し、路地という路
バリバリという大きな破壊音ともに、家屋にも襲いかかる波。土煙を上げ、次々と建物を
流され、壊された家々が1カ所に固まってひしめきあい、ギシギシと悲鳴のような、ごう
湾の方を見れば、何隻もの船が波に翻弄(ほんろう)され、漂い、ひしめき合っている。
石油タンクや屋根つき桟橋とおぼしき巨大な物体までもが、湾内を回流している。
またたく間に水没した市街地。人々は、変わり果てた故郷の様子をぼうぜんと見つめる。
Footage: Tsunami attacking the urban district of Kesennuma city. People in evacuation gather to higher ground after the earthquake. Numerous sirens and emergency announcements notifying the warning echo noisily throughout the city. The camera captures two boats moored in the narrow bay of the opposite bank intermittently. In the beginning, the two boats notify an alarming drop in water level. After repeated aftershocks, the camera being gazed at by the two boats captures the surface of the sea rise in an instant. The water surface reached over the quay wall in a flash, flowing out and washing the boats away. Notice that the water is rushing towards the city below high ground as well. Cars are sinking or being washed away. Rapid currents are occurring everywhere and flowing into allies. With a roaring sound of destruction, waves attack houses. Buildings are destroyed one by one raising clouds of dust. Houses washed away and crushed gather in one place, surging against each other letting out roaring sounds like screams. Looking over at the bay, numerous boats are being tossed about by the waves, drifting and crowding together. Evidently large objects such as oil tanks and a pier with a roof are circling within the bay.
