The Atom Strikes - 1945 Atomic Weapons and WW2 Bombing of Hiroshima

公開日: 2012/07/05
Educational documentary prepared by the United States War Department, giving an overview of the first atomic bomb detonated by the USA in 1945 at New Mexico along with other tests performed during the late 1940's. The bombing, and subsequent devestation, when atomic weapons were dropped over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is also covered including a first hand account from a witness in Hiroshima. .

Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Aftermath (1946) - Rare News Footage

公開日: 2013/08/18
This short documentary contains the contemporaneous Japanese* footage of Hiroshima victims released by the US in the first year following the occupation of Japan. The film shows not only the effects of radiation on buildings where shadows of the blast remained, but medical staff attending to the treatment of burn victims in the aftermath of the Bomb's devastation.
It concludes with segments shot a year after the bomb by US occupation forces showing a classroom without walls in which a student sits at his desk writing. The flesh on his arm carries a scar from a burn. In the final shots, the streets are shown, complete with a trolley on which hang more passengers outside than inside, while the narrator (Ed Herlihy) intones about the 'little men' who dreamt of empire becoming subjects of US occupation.
The Hiroshima segment only runs for over a minute.
The rest of the film deals with atomic tests on Bikini Atoll conducted by the US in 1946. It includes the chief of Bikini Atoll being given an invitation to watch his island being bombed by the US admiral. (Do you suppose he could refuse?)
The rest of the film are shots of atomic testing, with a buildup to an aerial shot of the bombing at sea.

Was Hiroshima and Nagasaki the greatest act of terrorism in modern civilization?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100416161619AAXn5qw

Grant asked 4 years ago

America bombed Hiroshima, Japan, August 6th, 1945. Almost 100,000 people died in this bombing. Most were innocent civilians. One of the personnel on the Enola Gay, the ship that carried the bomb, nicknamed 'Little Boy' remarked in a journal "My God. What have we done?" After seeing the deadly mushroom cloud rise after the explosion on the island.
3 days later, on August 9th, another atomic bomb, nicknamed "Fat Man" was dropped on Nagasaki. Again, most casualties were innocent civilians. In my mind, it doesn't matter how vicious and ferocious war gets, it is absolutely never justified to drag civilians into the matter. All this is is a testament to how something like war can incite such terrible consequences. The death count in both attacks was 140,000 people. 92% civilians. Was this the greatest by body count, act of terrorism in modern history?
